I have a question to ask. Are sunrise and sunset symmetrical? What I mean is that given the fact that one never visited the place in the photograph will he/she be able to tell if the picture is that of sunset or sunrise?
There may be few factors like fog in the morning that helps determine this but if there is no fog will it still be possible?

As far as i think this is a photo taken in campus and obviously you wont be available at the time of sunrise so the conclusion is it is a photo of sunset and not sunrise :)-Roshni
sun sets in west and rises in east.. will that help?
I don't think you got my question. Given that you have no information about the place means, you do not know if the picture taken is of the west or east then how do you determine it?
